One of my favorite stories of a college student getting connected with Woodlands is Brett Plyler. He had never even been a camper at a camp before. He had no intention of working at one either. Check out his story on how he got connected with Woodlands at how it impacted his life…
The impact a simple question can have on your friend’s lives is significant. Don’t take “no” for an answer. If you have a friend who doesn’t have plans, then never stop asking!

Some more fun facts:
136 staff / 75 Rookies / 61 Veterans
77 of our staff were campers here and 48 of those were SALT campers… love that!
Our staff is represented by 12 different states and 42 different colleges/universities.
Our 2024 camper goal!
In Summer 2023, we were just short of 9,000 campers for the first time.
Our goal is to grow in every Program in 2024. Here is a breakdown of our goals for each one:
WKND - 560
Traditional - 4,720
Xtreme - 900
Freestyle - 4,000
SALT - 48
That’s right. It’s our goal not only to surpass 9,000 campers but to serve over 10,000 campers in 2024.
I share this with you for two reasons:
Our mission is to inspire and equip this generation to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God. By filling all of our beds, hammocks, and Synergy Sites with campers, we can fulfill that mission and help campers take the next step in their relationship with Jesus.
We can fulfill that mission best with a FULL staff. That’s where we need your help! Help us fill our staff by sharing the opportunity with your friends and encouraging them to apply.
Campers will start registering for Camp THIS MONTH!
January 1 - SALT Campers can start applying
January 5 - WKND registration opens
January 7 - Freestyle registration opens
February 24 - Traditional & Xtreme opens
NEXT is our residency program for young adults between the ages of 18 to 25.
Overview of the program:
Live in incredible community at Woodlands.
Grow spiritually and develop as a leader.
Build soft skills such as work ethic, attention to detail, people skills, and ministry connections.
Invest a season of life in a mission bigger than your own while continuing your education online.
Early applications are open from March 17 - 31. If you’ve thought about taking a gap year, then NEXT is a great fit for you. If you still want to continue your education online with a full-time paid position at Woodlands, then NEXT is a great fit for you.
What do you need to DO?
January 21 at 4 PM EST we will have our first staff Zoom call. It is not required, but highly encouraged. So mark your calendars and join us in a few weeks! Here are the goals of these meetings:
Build community.
Get to know the staff before summer even starts.
Talk about Camp.
These meetings give those who are new to Woodlands an opportunity to ask questions.
Invite your friends who are interested in serving so they can hear about Camp as well.
Click the button on the right to join this month’s Zoom.
SALT (Service and Leadership Training) is a program geared towards mature 16-18-year-olds who are passionate about living for God and who are ready to take their spiritual walk and leadership skills to the next level.
They will have the opportunity to serve alongside our summer and full-time staff for three weeks. Our guy and girl SALT counselors will also spend time with the SALT campers teaching and guiding them through in-depth discipleship sessions. They will not only discover what it looks like to step out and follow God with their whole life but will also learn how to become a Godly servant leader.
Applications are open from January 1-31. If you know a 16-18-year-old that would be a good fit in this program, please direct them to apply. Here are the sessions:
Session 1: June 3 - 21
Session 2: June 24 - July 13
Session 3: July 15 - August 3

Time Off Requests
I know some of you have asked how time off works for the summer.
In March, I will send out a form for you to fill out requesting for time off.
Until then, here is a breakdown of our policy for you as a reference:
Please understand, in signing a contract to serve at Woodlands, we are counting on you to be here. We don't staff extras, meaning you can't leave for a week to go to the beach with your family. However, we understand that you are at the age where many of your friends are starting to get married, so we will do our best to help you out. In short, our policy is to make it happen if you are IN a wedding (groomsmen, maid of honor, etc). If you want to simply attend a wedding, graduation ceremony, or some other function, we'll do our best to accommodate but no promises. Here is our complete time off policy:
Weddings:
IN a wedding or attending the wedding of a sibling
Guaranteed time off
Max time off if IN a wedding is leaving Thursday morning and returning by Sunday afternoon
ATTENDING a wedding
Only if you won't miss time, including Sunday evening huddles (staff small groups)
Graduations, recitals, etc. of a sibling
Only if you can leave and return the same day (if returning would put you back too late to drive safely, you would need to return before the first scheduled event the next day)
Leaving early
If you need to leave early at the end of the summer to return to school (leadership training, sports, ministry team, etc), we will allow you to leave up to 60 hours before you have to arrive on campus. That should give plenty of time to travel and transition.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can direct those toward me.
Starting in 2024, we will be hosting a monthly Zoom call. Is it required? No! Is it worth you joining in? 100%. The goal for these Zoom calls will be:
Connect as a staff. Match names to faces.
Updates on what is going on around Woodlands.
A platform for all of you to ask specific questions about being on staff at Woodlands.
What do you need to DO?
Help us build our team!
Do you have friends that you believe would be a good fit on our team? Here’s what you can do to help:
Encourage them to apply.
Tell your friends about why you’re working at Woodlands this summer.
Tell your friends why they would be a good fit at camp.
Send them to our APPLY page.
Set up an event at your school, ministry, etc.
We would love to host an event for you and your friends.
If you can get some of your friends together, we can set up a time to come to you.
You can connect with Brent Kimbro to set this up: 706-8780-6088 (cell) bkimbro@woodlandscamp.org (email).
REMINDER: you could earn a $100 bonus!
For those of you that have just signed on, this applies to you as well!
On our application, we ask this question: What one person (if any) was most influential in your decision to apply at Woodlands?
A $100 bonus is yours if your friend does all of the following things…
Puts YOUR name as the person who influenced them to apply
Completes their application
Receives a contract
Signs that contract
Shows up for Training Camp
Help us build our Freestyle calendar!
Freestyle is our mobile day camp that partners with host sites that we call Synergy Sites.
We have a few spots open. Will you help us fill those spots?
